About Novice Nationals

Given the many national tournaments that exist on the college level, why attend Novice Nationals? And what is the history behind the tournament?

The tournament was created for the same reasons that it still exists today:

  • Novice Nationals supports the idea that there should be a space for new programs and 1st year students to have a competitive, yet less threatening, nationals experience.
  • To give 1st year students a chance to see how they compare against other 1st year students.
  • To begin the process of training a new generation of forensic educators. At Novice Nationals, students who are 2 years removed from competition can judge; it not only helps them teach a new generation of forensics students, but it also helps to understand forensics in a differerent context.

Students who have attended Novice Nationals have done well at NFA, AFA, NPDA, NPTE, and Interstate Oratory.
